Move into autumn

With the leaves changing and the heat beginning to drop, autumn in Queensland is a wonderful time for enjoying the outdoors and getting active. It’s also a good opportunity to revisit and reset our goals, whether that be increasing our steps or decreasing our waistline, autumn is a great time to get things moving.

A breath of fresh air

Unlike the sticky summer heat, autumn’s cooler temperatures mean we can stay active outside for longer. Plus, exercising in natural light helps regulate sleep patterns and support our overall well-being. Regular movement, whether it’s walking, cycling, or playing team sports, is great for weight management, builds strength, and improves cardiovascular health. On top of that, fresh air and natural surroundings can reduce stress and boost our mood.

Stronger together

Walking is one of the easiest ways to stay active, and it’s even better with company. A stroll through the park or along the beach lets you catch up with friends while getting your steps in. Another excellent option is an audiobook or podcast, you’ll find the kilometres flying by as the kilos fly off. For tips to help you move more and stay motivated, visit 10,000 Steps.

Autumn’s crisp mornings and mild afternoons make it an ideal time to explore Queensland’s natural beauty. Joining a hiking or cycling group is a fun way to discover the winding bush tracks or coastal paths and being part of a group can help keep you motivated and introduce you to like-minded people.

If you’re looking for something more social, how about joining in a team sport like touch football or pickleball? It’s all about taking part and it’s a great way to meet new friends of all ages. Community tennis courts, basketball courts, lawn bowls, take a look around and see what takes your fancy. Newcomers are always welcome, so don’t be shy!

Staying motivated

Setting small goals can help keep you on track. Whether it’s aiming for a certain number of steps each day, completing a weekend hike, or joining a local social sports team, having something to work towards makes a big difference. If motivation is a challenge, teaming up with others can help. Exercising with friends or meeting new people in a fitness group makes staying active more enjoyable and helps keep you accountable.

Harvest a season of growth and wellbeing

By making the most of Queensland’s mild autumn weather, you can boost your physical and mental health, strengthen social connections, and build habits that keep you feeling great all year round. Whether you’re catching up with friends on a morning walk, joining a local sports group, or exploring the tracks and trails, there’s lots to do and see out there. This season is all about balance between fitness, fun, and feeling good.

As the season’s change, we should also take the time to check-in with ourselves and take stock of how we are feeling overall. If something has been lingering all season, mentally or physically, make that appointment with the GP and take the first steps in sorting things out.
