Delivering healthcare digitally is a rapidly evolving space, mobile health technology presents exciting opportunities for the health sector to provide effective, low cost interventions to people living with, or at risk of chronic disease anywhere and anytime.
Recently the My health for life team, and staff from Diabetes Queensland, Diabetes NSW/ACT and Stroke Foundation Brisbane, piloted Sidekick Health Games. Sidekick is a clinically validated health platform that allows people to improve their health and well-being by undertaking health missions in three categories: food, mind and exercise using a mobile app. Health Games is a three week workplace program offered by Sidekick that enables workplaces to engage their workforce simultaneously in a friendly team-based competition. Teams and individuals earn health points for logging activities within the app.
During the internal pilot, staff were able to connect and compete with their colleagues and get healthier together while learning more about healthy lifestyles and chronic disease risk factors. With some fierce, friendly rivalry, the teams and staff achieved great results.

The SideKick app was also able to prompt users participating in Health Games to visit the My health for life website to complete a health check, providing yet another avenue to connect with individuals about their health, particularly while they are engaging in a health-related activity.
Due to the success of our internal pilot, and the opportunity Sidekick provides to promote My health for life within the app, the program is now in the process of piloting the Games externally with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). Currently more than 100 TMR staff have registered to take part. Stay tuned for updates on how they go.
