fun in the sun

11.12.2017

Longer days and plenty of sunshine provide endless opportunities to get active over summer.

The promise of a sunny day makes it much easier to get out of bed earlier and fit in 30 minutes of activity.

Remember all types of physical activity counts in keeping up your fitness – it doesn’t have to be gym and/or aerobics classes. So why not swap running shoes for swimmers and head to the pool? It is great for water aerobics, Aqua Zumba or just doing laps. If you are feeling more adventurous maybe trying paddle boarding for an upper body and leg workout while enjoying the views. Feeling social? Try getting some friends together and setting up a game of pool volleyball, Marco Polo or swimming basketball.

An early morning or late afternoon walk or run will ensure you avoid the sun during those high risk times. In the middle of the day it is important to keep your body hydrated and your body temperature down.

When you are outdoors over summer, always remember to wear your hat, long sleeves and sunglasses; apply broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen every 2 hours; and get into the shade when you can to stay protected. Most of all, have fun getting active this summer!
